Word Study- "The Lottery"

Hi all! First things first. Take out your essay draft. Circle a section for me to look at. I'll will try to give it back with written or verbal feedback by the end of class.

Meanwhile, we need someone is especially organized to write all the word study roots and prefixes we've had so far!

Then, you will need a loose sheet of paper. Your task to is to find confusing or complex vocabulary that contains any of the prefixes in the packet  or root words we've studied so far.

1. First skim the reading, finding words that fit the above criteria. Write those words in your journal (not on the loose paper)
2. In groups, you will compare the words you've found, either adding some to your list or deleting them if they aren't very complex (such as the word "produce"---yes, it contains a prefix we've studied, but is this a word you are unfamiliar with?)
3. Read the story together. Stop at the words you wrote down. Write the sentence. Then rewrite it in your own words. This will take several days, so don't rush.
